DESCRIPTION:
A first-year legend that's been restored the way you like it, with bright blue paint and a rebuilt (believed to be) original V8 motor. If you're a true collector and enthusiast, take a long look at this 1964 Sunbeam Tiger, because one this nice is truly an endangered species.
Blessed by racing legends like Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby, this first-year Sunbeam Tiger is a car that started the legend. It came with true sleeper looks that looked much like its Alpine brother, which is what makes these cars so great. It's arguably one of the best British roadster designs with the deeply diving hood, sleek profile, and a hint of a tailfin at the rear. In fact, those cues make it truly destined to be an Anglo-American! You can see it best on this restored example where the great fit of the body panels give the side trim an uninterrupted line, and the large bumpers shine like mirrors. Plus, the bright metallic blue paint will make every outing feel a bit like James Bond's first movie.
Underneath the black folding roof is the restored black leather interior. The bucket seats have the kind of grip to keep you planted during any hi-jinks the Tiger was specifically created for. These are particularly well appointed for British roadsters, including a comfortable center console, AM radio, working heater, and plenty of wood trim. Plus, there are the functional pieces such as the grippy original steering wheel, Ford stick shift, and a full set of Jaeger gauges, including tach. But the appeal of this convertible goes much further. The door panels, carpeting, trunk, and rear storage all have that crisp feeling that comes from money well spent.
Today we all know the Tiger was no weak feline. The 260 V8 badges on the fender and rear are quite important. It reminds everyone that this featherweight British machine has a big American heart. The motor is believed to be original. It was rebuilt in 2001 and upgraded to an Offenhauser intake and Carter four-barrel carburetor. As you can see from the pictures that this Tiger has been keep in top shape since restoration, and it's this level of care that makes us easily believe the low 52,855 miles on the odometer are actual. But more than just a treasured piece, these cars were made for driving. That's why the four-speed manual transmission was rebuilt, and a new clutch was installed at the same time the motor was done. So, the motor fires up readily and gives a ferocious growl out of the header-fed dual exhaust. Add in front disc brakes and the grip of modern Yokohama tires at all four corners, and soon you realize that this time capsule Tiger is begging for the open road.
Complete with maintenance records and restoration photos, this is a historic roadster that is turnkey ready for all the weekend fun and car shows you can handle.

Lord Rootes of the Rootes Group produced these cars in England. The Sunbeam Tiger was derived from an existing car called the Alpine.
Carroll Shelby was commissioned by Rootes to put a V8 in the Alpine. Shelby had just finished putting a Ford V8 in the AC Ace and renamed it the Cobra. Caroll Shelby was paid a commission on every car. Tigers were built from 1964-1967 and weighed only 2565 lbs. Commonly called The Poor Man's Cobra.
